New modules, sort of

The modules are stripped of the old HO stuff, moved back out to the layout building, and almost ready to start with the new On30 design.

All that is left to do before starting track is to cut 2 new top pieces of 3/4 foam to level the tops with the bench work and provide depth for water ways to be cut.

One of these is 5' long and the other is 7' giving me a total of 12' X 2' to work with.

New Modules

If you have been following along, you know that while the big layout is down, I built a small industrial layout made up of two modules.

I found myself unsatisfied with the winter scenery that I had been creating.  I have decided to go in a different direction.  I have stripped these down and moved them back out to the layout building.  I will be putting them together lengthwise and building a small On30 layout on them.

I am handlaying all the track.  I have 3 of the turnouts done so far and the modules are almost stripped clean enough to start laying track.  More to come on this project soon.

May 17th

My dirty little model railroading secret is that I only weather one side of my equipment.  Since my last several, and the next, layouts have been around the walls shelf layouts, you only ever see one side.  Some of my kitbashes and scratchbuilds only have decals on one side!  I managed a bit of bench time this weekend and decided to start changing my ways.

These woodchip hoppers were all blank on the back sides, so I decaled and weathered them up a bit.

I also worked on a few cars that didn't have any weathering on them yet at all.  I think these may be the first cars that I weathered both sides of before I put them into service.

I finally got around the lettering my On30 2-8-0 for my O scale home road.

May 9th

I know there hasn't been much activity here and I apologize.  Spring is finally here in the great North and outside duties call.  Here are a few shots of the modules that I am working on right now.  I thing that I am going to disassemble them as I am not satisfied with the snow scenery experiment.

Here are a few from the old layout just before it's untimely demise.  The new building is progressing.  I am really itching to get the new layout started.

May 1st

Decided to take a break from boxcar to woodchip hopper conversions and do a few coal hopper to wood chip hopper conversions.  Not many were done in harvest gold like this one.  The rest will likely all be Jade Green as I only had decals for one in Harvest Gold.
