April 24th

Spring is finally here, so outside work has been on the agenda, but I have built and started weathering a few kits over the last few days.

Made a bit of progress on a craftsman reefer kit this week too.

April 20th

Did a little weathering on a MEC boxcar yesterday.  I used a mix of airbrush, oils, and weathering powders.

I also started on an old Silver Streak craftsman kit that I have had for years and years.

April 19th

Not much to post up here.  I have finished up the O scale water tank that I have been building.  I think it came out pretty well.

I'm not sure if I have posted any of these up yet, but since I don't have much to update, I will toss them up.  I have been test running some On30 equipment for giggles.

water tank and weathering

I haven't posted for awhile, mostly due to winter finally loosening it's grasp on us up here in Maine.

I have been working on a few things.  The first of the two garage doors that need to come out for the layout room renovation is out and the other is about halfway.  The first batch of lumber and insulation for the new walls is here and waiting, as well as the supplies to fix the outdoor drainage problem that left the room with 3 inches of water in it.

I have been working on building an On30 water tank.

It's not quite done, but I am really happy with how it is turning out.  I also started weathering on a boxcar and two cement hoppers that I built from kits.  These pictures show the first layer of weathering done with an airbrush.  It's supposed to rain on Friday and Saturday, so I hope to get to some work with oils and then finish up with powders as I usually do.

Overview shots

Here are a few shots of the modules that I have been building to have a place to switch cars while I stud out the new walls for the rebuild of the big layout.

I am not really satisfied with the snow scenery and have to decided to tear these modules apart and chalk it all up as a learning experience.

I plan to reuse the two modules in On30 to take to shows.

All of the HO will, of course, be reused on the big layout.  Still working on the trackplan for that one.

No rush though, since it will likely take me a few more months to get the walls up, insulated, and sheetrocked.

Beginnings and endings and beginnings

It started here,

and ended up here,

and now, it's back to here.

A little more clean up and it will be time for putting up new walls, a floor, and then on to benchwork.
